I finally see a center on visible

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

I believe someone posted a ship report of a west wind...

But you forget, we're ignoring facts in this discussion. :P

Which gives further credence that the LLC has always been present because there is no way this system does not have a closed circulation right now.

Thank you. Science is based on all observations.

NHC: "A surface circulation is and was present with this system." "Enthusiasts perspective"???

This has been a Tropical Cyclone for a while now, and I find it quite silly to proclaim it an open wave.

why? all the evidence the past few days, visible/IR/quicksats all showed an open wave, derek is absolutely right that the NHC called it a depression for continuity...it made sense since they felt it would become closed in the near future

No it had inflow all the time flowing into its southeastern quad. With at least a broad LLC at the surface. The NHC was right to keep it as it was.

If you or Derek would have looked at visibles, then you would have noticed that it was a tropical cyclone for reasons that Matt stated above.

Derek made the comment that low level convergence looked WORSE today then yesterday, and then a ship reports a wsw and a sw wind near Irene. There goes his open wave theory. The NHC didnt call it a depression for continuity, they called it a depression because.....go figure.....it actually WAS one.

EDIT: whoops, the image ended up kinda small  anyway, the blue is ULL flow, the purple is the outflow boundary, the red is the storm rotation and the green is the POSSIBLE center.

Image

on the quikSCAT too... I see southerly wind flow, I see southeasterly wind flow, I see easterly wind flow; but where westerly and flow should be is light winds and in the general direction of east...

comments are not welcome: they are NEEDED!

No pun intended...but let me go find my daughter's magnify glass that she looks at butterflies and stuff with so I can see it. But thanks for posting it.

Two nights ago (I believe) NHC called it a depression for CONTINUITY. They stated in the discussion it very well may be an open wave.

That was then..this is now.

When they said that is the only time I would have ever considered this close to being an open wave....but hearing people calling it an open wave now is just absurd.

i don't think anyone is calling it an open wave NOW...36-48 hours ago, the case for open wave was pretty strong

People were calling it an open wave for the past 2 days (including earlier this morning) just because the QuikSCAT didnt indicate a closed circulation and they seem to not be able to find westward moving low level clouds on VIS (Even though they were obvious). Do I need to find quotes?

Don't try and make something sound like what isn't there!!! Derek never called or even intimated that the NHC are using and "Enthusiasts perspective"!!!! He was intimating that posters here were doing that instead of going by the facts that he saw. Go back and read it again.

As for the rest of this bickering IT IS RIDICULOUS!!! IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO SAID WHAT WHEN!!! EVERYONE IS ALLOWED THEIR OPINION IF IT IS BEING DONE RESPECTFULLY AND SOME ARE NOT BEING RESPECTFUL IN THEIR DISAGREEMENT!! GET BACK TO BEING RESPECTFUL OR THE THREAD WILL BE LOCKED AND MOVED.
