What's on your soundtrack? (a general music thread)

#1 Postby stormie_skies » Wed Aug 10, 2005 4:12 pm

I can't believe there isn't an ongoing music thread in this forum!

I think most people can narrow down the music they like into something of a "soundtrack" - with certain songs or artists filling each period in their lives. I'm sure all of us have experienced many changes in our taste in music....but there are always a few songs that stick out and are timeless, or stay meaningful because they remind us so much of things that we like to remember. :D

So, if you were to make a soundtrack to your life....what would be on it?

Thanks! I still have a few more songs, as well as comments, to add. Just a small part of my web page that I have yet to finish. :)

I bolded the ones I like up there. I'm also into Rob Thomas, Kelly Clarkson, and 3 Doors Down. And for the 80's, man I don't think you can beat Huey Lewis and The News. But that's me.

By this list below, you can tell I'm a Classic Rock fan, with a little something funky thrown in from time to time. I love country, but have gravitated back to my roots as I've grown older. I put this together one saturday night, just reaching and grabbing what popped into my head. Having left the DJ scene many years ago, I'm now back to listening to what I love, not what people pay me to play.

Hence .... NO FREAKIN" RAP

Gates of Delerium – (“Soon”) – Yes
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynard Skynrd
Dear Mr. Fantasy – Traffic
The Joker – Steve Miller Band
Stuck in the Middle With You – Steelers Wheel
You Can Call Me Al – Paul Simon
Carribean Queen (extended version) – awesome!) – Billy Ocean
Spooky – ARS
Wish You Were Here – (Acoustic version – rare) – Pink Floyd
In The Beginning – ELP
When I’m 69...whoops- make that "64" – Beatles
Cortez The Killer (Acoustic) – Neil Young
Amie – Pure Prairie League
Something – (Acoustic) George Harrison solo
Almost Cut My Hair – CSNY
County Line – Pousette Dart Band
Family Tradition – Hank Williams Jr.

Me too, but I've got a little different tune for me. Anything Beatles (I have all but 2 of their songs), America, Eagles(early), CSN, CCR, a little Simon and Garfunkel, BTO, a little Beach Boys, John Lennon, very early Stones, Jim Croce, etc. Just about anything from 1964-1974, with a few exceptions to other times.

And I had actually thought about something like this a week or so ago.

This is fascinating... Let me go through the rest of my iPod library and see what else is there...

Switchfoot, Cher, Casting Crowns, plenty of Lord of the Rings soundtracks... Leann Rimes, Shania Twain, Big Daddy Weave, Chris Tomlin... etc...

But remember, Stormie wasn't just asking what songs are on your iPod. She wants to know the soundtrack of your life. :)

Soundtrack to my life...

Wow, that's deep.

1. "Here With Me" - Dido
2. "Live For Today" - Natalie Grant
3. "More Love, More Power" - Micheal W. Smith
4. "The Sound Of Silence" - Simon and Garfunkel
5. "With Hope" - Steven Curtis Chapman
6. "Blessed" - Christina Aguilera
7. "Hero" - Miriah Carey
8. "Quicken" - Thousand Foot Krutch
9. "It's a Great Day To Be Alive" - Travis Tritt
10. "You're Still The One" - Shania Twain

Let me explain these a bit. Numbers 1 and 10, honestly, remind me of my girlfriend. We've been through so much, it's hard not to connect her with those songs. Numbers 2, 3, 5, 6, and 9 remind me of how I like to live my life each day. One day at a time. And to always remember my favorite verse: 1 Corinthians 13:13... "Of these remain, faith, hope, and love; but the greatest is love."

Number 4 refers to points in my life that have truly made me relaxed; perfect silence. Number 7 refers to my belief that everyone has a hero in their life. There's always someone there to lift you up when you fall.

Number 8 is basically referring to the fact that i'm always rushed. I'm hardly ever relaxed. Hence the importance of number 4.
