Miss Mary wrote:wxmom - I loved my Gunne Sax dresses! In fact, I wore one for my second wedding - full length, pleated skirt, ivory satin, lace bodice. I had so many compliments on it!

Did anyone roll their bandanas up (point to point) and use them as a hairband? I did, tying them off to the side with a double knot, on the side of my head!

Mary

I had a Gunne Sax dress for my Jr. Prom - now my 6 year old DD wears it for dress up (with the addition of a couple of safety pins so it doesn't fall off LOL).

And yes, I wore bandannas as headbands for years - had to do something with that long spiral perm! I actually still use them for headbands now when I am painting or mowing, and I have short hair. Old habits die hard.

1. Bell-bottom jeans. Just plain ugly - I regret every cent of babysitting money I spent on these!!! (BTW, I had one of those combs in my back pocket too - we ALL did ROFL).

2. Shirts from the mid eighties that were in plaids and had RUFFLES down the front. Bad, bad look - kind of an updated Little House on the Prairie - in my school picture from Jr. year I am wearing one of these.

3. Later 80's - shirts that came down (almost) to your knees worn with leggings.

4. Stirrup pants. Ugly and uncomfortable.

5. The whole trashy look in the late 80's (think early Madonna). I used to wear the most outrageous outfits - (edited because I described one of my outfits and it made my computer crash   )

I've still got one of those down vests around here... warm... looks hideous. Always did. warm, though.

I've 1960s clogs that I brought out of the closet and wear again (mine are from Sweden--made to last!)

Anyone remember paper dresses? If you sat down after dancing, they stuck to the chair and ripped...

A grey flannel poodle skirt with the poodle in pink felt--rhinestone eyes, etc.

The grey French smock that covered your clothes so you would not get dirty--Ugh! Aaarrgh! No way...

Platform shoes....

Another fashion item that I still have (as souvenir of something--I'm not sure what)

A genuine Davy Crockett hat (1950s) with coon tail on a snap so you could take it off for some unknown reason....

The fringed Davy Crockett jacket.....

(Since I was a girl, and these were "boy's clothes" they were pretty rebellious possessions back then... But still have them.

CajunMama wrote:What about your hair style in the 70's? I liked the long straight look best. My hair was/is so straight that the Farrah look didn't do to well. I remember drying my hair with the first blowdryer. It was a Conair with the brush attachment that slid onto the blowdryer and was a hideous yellow/gold color. And it took forever to dry your hair! Then I'd try curling my hair with the steam mist heat rollers. Didn't do too good!

Yep, I had waist length, straight hair parted down the middle. We all did in my graduating class. We called ourselves carbon copies of eachother....well we did wear uniforms too.

I remember ironing my hair, b/c well, this will really date me....ya ready? Blowdryers hadn't become available yet. So I had waves I hated, just a few. My mother had a fit when I'd iron my hair. A friend of mine made her own blowdryer...she just disconnected the shower cap thing from the hose on her hairdryer and stood like that, waving the hose all over the place. Of course it was nothing like a high powered blowdryer of today but at the time, she thought she was onto something....LOL

I wore clogs from the time I was a teenager and discovered how comfortable they are until about 3 years ago when I wrecked my knee(in ski boots, not clogs!!). I have been afraid of the way you can twist when you step on something uneven, other wise I have been dying to get back into my clogs, nothing on earth is more comfortable.

da, da, da, da Stayin Alive, Stayin Alive -- Dennis I can see you in those shirts!!!!lol Men with their platform shoes, brightly printed silky shirts and lots of chains.

1960's - wraparound short skirts and flippy hairstyles with lots of hairspray - little bows in the hair too!!
1970's - ahhhhhhh we burned the bra - halter tops and hiphugger bell bottoms, wide belts also turtleneck body suits. I loved the shoes because with 5" platform heals I became 5'7"!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was tall at last. The hair was called the shag. I don't like to mention her name, but it was like Hanoi Jane Fonda's hair. I loved all the styles of the 70's.
