Where's the recon for Irene?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

I thought that once a TC moves past 55W recon would go, especially for a system like this one (to see if Irene actually contains a center or not). I heard JB talk about it this morning but forgot to post it.

Comments? Or are they waiting and seeing if Irene should be "reconed"?

Unless a system is a threat to any land no recon will go even if it passed 55w.You can expect them to begin tasking the system when it gets close to the Northern Bahamas and the East coast of US.

Thanks for the info cycloneye! :D Still wondering though why JB was so angry at the fact that there are no plans for recon going into Irene.

So are there some specific parameters to warrant a recon?

Let's face it, this is supposed to be a very active and long season. I'm sure they would love to go check out every storm out there, but its a matter of finances. Save some for September.

There has been no need for recon, and it is not a money issue either.

Expect to see some flight plans by Thursday evening or Friday if needed.

I think with the potential track uncertainty, it certainly warrents a look. But I agree its a money call.

yeah, i know its not close enough to a landfall....but, at times there seems to be some uncertainty in nhc voice about the td...and that sometimes they think its a wave..
