This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Irene, the weakest "I" storm on record ... so far!

#1 Postby HURAKAN » Mon Aug 08, 2005 9:49 am

I have been trying to find a storm with starting with "I" that has been as weak as Irene. As we all know, most "I" named storm are known to be powerful like Ivan (80/98/04), Iris (01), Isabel (04), and many more. But Irene this year has struggle as much as a tropical cyclone can withstand, becoming a tropical storm at one point in its life. The weakest "I" storm before Irene was TS Isaac in 1988 with 45 mph. Of course, Irene still is not dead and the future may be more benevolent for this little storm.

Yeah, look at 120hrs. There's not going to be three storms in her wake, nor will she have min pressure of 1000mb in 6hrs. No way.

*points and laughs at mm5*

There have been many storms that were written off, downgraded, etc. Then they came to life. Andrew comes to mind. Until Irene is declared dead don't count her out.

Is Global Warming responsible for this historically weak storm?

Normally the I storm occurs in the peak of the season...

I was going to say the same thing...about I being weakest because usually the I storms are later in the year when the season is at its peak. We might be seeing strong M, N, O, P down the road instead of the norm.

But who knows. I could strengthen back up. Never know.
