For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico...

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on two puny storms that are undeserving of respect...Tropical Depression Irene...which has officially now been declared dead...and Tropical Storm Harvey...which also has been declared dead by us.

All areas of the Atlantic now have only 70 degree water...40 kt of shear...and is now blanketed by dry MJO and Saharan air. Upper level lows that are covering the Atlantic are not expected to develop.

Elsewhere...tropical storm formation is not expected through June 2006.

But seriously, the tendency for an active early season to be followed by a slow late season could be evolving here.

Maybe Irene and Harvey were the last spurts of the early season outbreak and a slow August is finally setting up?

guys guys guys relax. there is a moment of inactivity and already you guys are declaring this an indication of a quiet remainder of August? Come on the past 4-5 seasons have all had a sort of this. Remember 1998? Bonnie didnt form until August 20th and the month ended up with 4 named storms? Relax we got a loooong way to go. lol

How do you figure, if the average is less than that. If it falls slightly below the prediction it is still above average, because remember they are just predictions. We have to look at the yearly averages. Still above at the end..

I take NOAA's predictions with a grain of salt, but do you know that they have a ZERO PERCENT for the season to be below average. And that probably also means for the amounts of hurricanes and Majors. Now you don't think that NOAA would be that wrong, would you? (Hey, they should've put at least 1% then again ) If you say average NOAA has a 5% for that so I won't be surprised for that.
