Interesting 7-day Irene position on the ECMWF...

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Interesting 7-day Irene position on the ECMWF...

#1 Postby Derecho » Mon Aug 08, 2005 5:43 am

Arrgh......the EC maps on the ECMWF site are so horrendously loathsome I thought posting one of the dynamically generated maps from the PSC site would work..

Anyway, it's at

http://vortex.plymouth.edu/grbcalc2.html

You have to choose the ECWMF, surface pressure shown every .5 mb, choose the "tropical Atlantic" map, etc.

One fly in the ointment is that it APPEARS the EC init was a bit too far S for Irene; unfortunately even on the PSC maps you can't get a lat-lon grid, and while the EC is a great model, TCs are not "bogused" in on it and you can get init location problems.

Very interesting, that's where GFS took it on the first run as TD9
