Hey guys. Guess what happened to me today.... I got hit by that lightning (well not the same exact lightning but the same style). No joke.
Well not directly, but heres the story: I was working on my brakes about 5pm at my friends house in Coral Springs (riverside/sample area if you care to know), I didn't even notice the clouds rolling in till I had the right set off and I almost had them back on and working and I the big raindrops start up. I'm like "great" in my head. Here I am with most of my axle exposed and it starts pouring. I didn't even think to check the weather today. Well my friend comes out with an umbrella since I'm like 5 minutes from done. Lightning is crazy all around and thunder is almost nonstop. The rain was probably the worst I've seen in a couple years, and that includes both canes last year. Probably the worst since Irene came through our backyard.
My buddies hovering over me with the umbrella, its already flooded out pretty good, a half inch of water rushing down the driveway, I'm totally soaked. As I roll the tire over to put it up, I say something about how the rain suddenly got REALLY cold. It must have dropped 20 degrees from the typical hot florida rain to a nice cold deluge.
I start twisting on the first lugnut, and WHAM! BZZZZZT, POP!
I FELT THE STATIC RUN THROUGH THE BACK OF MY NECK, AND MY HAIR STOOD UP!!!! I actually felt the shock run through my fingers to the car. (Remember its on a jack, so the car is not insulated via the tires anymore) The most amazing part is how I could feel the electricity through my index finger and thumb. I immediately jumped up and ran for the house. If it were going to hit me directly of course I wouldn't be writing this. Instead it hit the corner of the house right next door about 12 feet from where I was. (LOL running towards the house was actually the wrong thing to do.) My buddy felt the static buildup on his hand from touching the umbrella. I wonder if we had a itty bitty visible static discharge headed from my car and the umbrella over to the bolt.
Well we went inside and I stood there for about 20 minutes jsut dripping and reflecting on my life and trying to get my heart to stop pounding.
Lesson learned. When there is lightning, go inside....
