The Premier Hurricane Tracking Software

#1 Postby Janice » Sat Aug 06, 2005 5:42 pm

I just saw this on the net. The premier hurricane-tracking software, Global Tracks brings storms dating back as far as 1886, right to your desktop. This application features better graphics. I think there is a free trial download.

I just thought you might want to check it out.

I like the detail in this one...and all the features..

But...for the price, I'd rather do model plots over Google Earth for free.

Yes, I thought it was neat too, but a little too expensive for me too.

I prefer to make my own chart, stick it up on a wall, stare at it and drool at the thought of plotting out the positions in pencil as they become known.

From there web site:

"Global Tracks Version 6 sales are closed due to the near future release of version 7"

Funny, shutting down sales and releasing a new version of their hurricane tracking software program RIGHT in the middle of one of the bussiest hurricane seasons on record... ahhhhhh what's wrong with this picture?

Yeah, they released 7 on July 11th and I got a 10-day trial from the official site (not this one) and the downloader to get updates was horrible. I guess new pieces of software are destined to have some bugs, but that many bugs aren't worth the $55.

I prefer to use paper charts too. Still have many paper maps of previous seasons.

I copied the NHC tracking charts (at the bottom of the NHC homepage) and use them on paint. I make my own track but on the computer...
