TC hitting Cape Verde

What is the strongest TC to hit Cape Verde Islands??? Has a storm ever reached hurricane status there??

The last one that really strikes my memory is Hurricane Jeanne of 1998. If my memory serves me correct, I believe she had 65 MPH winds in the cape verde region.

Unisys, for some reason, does not have the CV Islands on any of their graphics. lol

Yeah, it definitely affected the CV area, going by comparing the African continent shape between the two maps, it went close by.

Unisys should put the CV islands on!

AT 5 PM AST...2100Z...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE JEANNE WAS LOCATED
NEAR LATITUDE 13.5 NORTH...LONGITUDE 26.0 WEST OR ABOUT 115
MILES...185 KM...SOUTHWEST OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS.

JEANNE IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NORTHWEST NEAR 17 MPH...28
KM/HR...AND THIS MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE INTO WEDNESDAY.

SATELLITE PICTURES SHOWED AN EYE FORMING IN JEANNE EARLY THIS
AFTERNOON AND IT IS NOW ESTIMATED THAT JEANNE IS A HURRICANE WITH
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS NEAR 75 MPH...120 KM/HR...AND HIGHER
GUSTS. SOME STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

HURRICANE FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 35 MILES... 55 KM...
FROM THE CENTER...AND TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP
TO 145 MILES...230 KM.

ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 987 MB...29.15 INCHES.

REPEATING THE 5 PM AST POSITION...13.5 N... 26.0 W. MOVEMENT
TOWARD...WEST NORTHWEST NEAR 17 MPH. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS... 75
MPH. MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE... 987 MB.

THE NEXT ADVISORY WILL BE ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER AT
11 PM AST.

Jeanne passed roughly 115 miles from the Southernmost of the Cape Verde Islands. At the same time she became a hurricane, and its tropical storm winds extended 145 miles from the center. Thereafter, the CV islands most have experienced tropical storm conditions.

The track of this storm brings up another interesting question as to how many hurricanes have affected the Azores. It looks like this one hit them as a Cat. 1. At least I think those are the Azores.
