Named Storms:9
Hurricanes: 5
Major Hurricanes:3
US Landfalling Storms:3
Cat 5: 1 Possible(hit usa?)
So who thinks somewhere in Florida other then the always hit panhandle will be affected by a storm. My gut is Tampa will finally get its major hit in a long time.

Are we overdue here in Tampa? One thing is when the storms make landfall on the East coast and make its way over here. What happen if Tampa Bay have a direct hit?
Tampa is very overdue. They have not had a direct hit since like 1921. Should a major hurricane make a direct hit on Tampa Bay, it would be devastating. All the water would be pushed into the bay and major coastal flooding would occur. In my opinion its just a matter of time when Tampa gets its hit. But even a CAT 5 Landfalling in the east could still be bad for Tampa.

It is a price to pay for living in paradise, isn't it? At least we have somewhere to go not too far from here. We live just by a canal that was built to take some of the storm surge away. Last year, when Frances came, the water was way, way up. And that was not even a major hurricane when it came here.

floridahurricaneguy....I can tell you have never been through a strong hurricane. Your enthusiasm to be hit there in Tampa is just unreal. Until you have had your home flooded or completely destroyed, your memories lost or ruined and your yard torn up, it's exciting to think about storm coming at you.
After the headaches of rebuilding and even worse dealing with the insurance companies that refuse to pay because of some oversight or loophole in the policy that they can get away with the hurricane season starts to bring on an whole new meaning for a lot of us.
I am not trying to stomp out your enthusiasm but rather to bring things into perspective. For I too was once like you until one night in September '04 a storm named IVAN changed my mind for good.

Uh, nope. Tampa tends to get hit (historically) in September and October with the big ones (due to the cold fronts dropping down). Read the book on Florida Hurricanes history.

I agree with you. Yes I now want them to come but I understand my mind will change quickly. Love the excitement and hate the destruction. And also in no way am I jumping up and down saying Hurricane come destroy Tampa. I would be out of mind. Dont make assumptions that are not true. Yes I have been through strong hurricanes. I lost a vacation home in Gulf Shores last year.
I have been through Dennis, Floyd,Ivan,Jeanne fyi. Also lost most of my house in georgia to a F3 tornado.

Yea, yea, I know historically they do. But that doesnt mean its not possible. Hey I am just making total predictions, I am not some pro. But like I said just because historically they occur in september and october doesnt mean its not possible. Charley almost hit there and it was August.
