Do I detect a spin...

#1 Postby Windtalker » Sun Jul 31, 2005 10:42 am

at the area at about 13/60 or are my eyes wanting to see one. Zoom in and the last 3 frames show a slight spin. http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT ... -loop.html

Looking at the floater loop, there's a west wind reported in Grenada - so it looks like you're right. There's a closed circulation.

Grenada is reporting West winds right now, as well as, Trinidad and Tobago which are reporting SSW winds.

Grenada: Wind from the W (280 degrees) at 5 MPH (4 KT)

T & T: Wind from the SSW (210 degrees) at 8 MPH (7 KT)

We may have a closed circulation but the winds are very light according to all the reports from close-by islands, and the pressure is relatively high, 1014 mb.

Grenada wind shift may be due to a thunderstorm in the area, wait another ob or two see if it's for real.

we sure need much stronger winds than this to have this classified as a TD. Right now, the winds appear to be a whopping 10-15KT

West winds are not normally not anywhere near as strong with these kind of systems. Then the winds over northern side of the system. Its very rare to find strong west winds with fast moving systems like this to the west.

Agreed.

But a closed circulation is a first step in the direction of development, anyway.

It'll be interesting to see how the upper air situation progresses. Right now, that trough in the central Caribbean is looking pretty strong.

Definitely the latter. There's nothing there but local effects. Too much wishful thinking. Storm #8 will not occur in July.

Not when your getting 3 islands to the south of the cirulation saying west you don't. At least not likely. You can clearly see that this system is becoming better oreganized as time go's by. It also has a upper high...So don't count on it not developing. This is starting to be alot like Dennis/Charley/Isidor type system.

I agree Derek. The winds need to be a little stronger than that!

As someone who isn't biased(due to living in the U.K,doesn't bother me that much either way, wether it develops or not) I belivee ther eis a ever so slight spin there, however as Derek says,I suspect winds will have to increase before it becomes a TD,however I think it being upgraded soon is a possiblty, esp if it is winding up.
