Good point, Derecho, guess the IR Floater is a hard habit to break. That said, I think I've relocated my earlier contact, so maybe we'll have a refocus soon.

Yeah, I use GHCC myself. I never liked how the floater moves on loops. It's hard to keep any point of reference. Movement (and wobbles hehe) are much easier to discern on GHCC with Lat/Lon turned on IMO.

Brian H. left??? I haven't spoken to him since last September. Oh rats! He was really sweet!!

I'd love to see 92L on floater, being that we are so much closer to it here than the mainland. I want to watch the Dvorak loop.

It must be a secret among the initiates.

It's already past 50W. Anybody can email them to change the floater, but how long it takes for them to do it, is pretty much anyone's guess.

OK, would someone in the know, or Dixiebreeze, please clarify what this process is? Who is getting emailed? Are they actually moving a satellite in orbit based on a civilian email request? I'm just asking...I know it's EXPENSIVE to move satellites around and it just bemuses me how someone can send an email to NASA or the NWS or whomever and ask to move a floater around. An explanation is much appreciated (and it looks like others are wondering the same thing). Thanks so much!

Q: How do you point a floater?

I've never really asked, specifically. But here's an educated guess... You change the software script to grab a different set of raw data which feeds into the graphic and displays the picture.

All the floater is a zoomed up portion of a sat loop

I don't understand why the Floater should be focused on Gert's landfall point of several days ago when an active wave is happening elsewhere? If NHC can't hack it, perhaps they could assign someone from Storm2k to do the positioning?
