tell me dixiebreeze. how come when you request a floater to be changed, they do it almost instantly but when I do so, they ignore me?

 It's not always that instant, I'm afraid. But I like to get the request in as early as possible.

OK, I feel dumb. I'm not a newbie but I'm clueless here. I've seen these "request to move floater" posts for years and always wondered what is going on. I thought it was pretty inconceivable for a civilian to request a change in a satellite's orbital location. Am I missing something?

Looks like I'm not so lucky today, but maybe they're waiting until Invest 92 is past 40

It's already past 50W. Anybody can email them to change the floater, but how long it takes for them to do it, is pretty much anyone's guess.

OK, would someone in the know, or Dixiebreeze, please clarify what this process is? Who is getting emailed? Are they actually moving a satellite in orbit based on a civilian email request? I'm just asking...I know it's EXPENSIVE to move satellites around and it just bemuses me how someone can send an email to NASA or the NWS or whomever and ask to move a floater around. An explanation is much appreciated (and it looks like others are wondering the same thing). Thanks so much!

LOL it's a joke guys and gals. I do it once in a blue moon too. Make a post about changing the floaters. I don't expect them to do that but it's funny if it happens shortly after my 'request' on the boards. You never know... maybe someone reads the boards.

There was the one time last year (without rehashing the whole story people) when a false recon vortex got around with unbelievable speed showing a rapidly intensifying hurricane, cant remember which one off hand, but the information was shown seconds later on the weather channel LOL before it was realized this was indeed false info. Some nit was playing a joke (on another site and the info happen to get here then to TWC) and some of us wondered if the weather channel was reading these boards.

It's not really a big mystery. I did have a personal contact at Camp Springs, Md., but he is no longer there and it's pot luck re: the contacts. When Brian was there, the response was almost instantaneous.

I'm always a bit mystified with the obsesssion over "changing the floater" when GHCC works perfectly well and you zoom it yourself.
