bean"]that's gotta be the crasiest thing I've ever heard.....who ever passed this law just needs to be without electric for a week in the middle of august and then lets ask them if they care how much noise their generator makes!!

Thats what I am waiting for. after about 5 days they will beg for them. Then it would be great to say scre* you Home Depot is all out. Sweat for another week.

This has got to be the most stupid thing I have seen in many, many years.![]()

Ah yes. Palm Beach County. The land of hanging chads, moronic leadership and a pill popping world famous talk show host.
But if a Cat 4 hit there, despite all their money, they'd be the first to demand unlimited FEMA loans....

What is interesting is that all of the other jurisdictions in this area including Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Wellington and Palm Beach County don't have these restrictions. This is a small average income suburban town with families and middle income households.
This is a perfect example of what happens when you get a few guys in power in a small town that come from some NYC neighborhood. They think that they can shoe horn their ideas that they grew up with in a DENSELY populated area into normal American society.

I can not believe that they would enforce this law after a hurricane. The police are going to be busy enough with real laws, and as long as you are nice to your neighbors (invite them over to watch the game, sit in your AC, have a cold beer), they are not going to complain.
When I have been without power (not a whole lot), and had a generator, I did not run it 24 hours a day (I didn't have neighbors close enough to complain), but I honestly found it hard to sleep with the noise (plus always worried about them overheating, catching fire, or something like that). I would shut it off around midnight (or when I went to bed) and start it up in the morning to make coffee, take a shower (well water), and that kind of thing.
And honestly, they are not going to take away your generator, they are just going to fine you and tell you to shut it off (until they leave), so I would ask what the fine is going to be and ballance the cost of paying a fine or two, or sweating, having food rotting in the fridge, drinking warm beer, not being able to watch any important storm related info on the TV... I might be willing to pay $50 a day for those comforts.

Barb,
That's the thing. It's just here in Royal Palm Beach (You know, right next to the acreage). It's not county wide...just here. The're not even this strict over on Palm Beach where Trump lives!! They can run their generators any time there is an emergency. In fact many of those mega buck homes have had stand-by generators for years. This rule applies only to our little town.

I live just north of there and know it is nuts some of the restrictions they have in Royal Palm. Saw this debate going on and thought surely they wouldn't do such a thing. Let's see them try to tell people when they are without electricity they can't use them at night and see how many listen! No thought what so ever as to food spoilage, those with health problems, etc. It is for the birds!
