El nino will continue to sleep thru March,2006

http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/ahead/ENSO-summary.shtml

So no changes from the models for ENSO about having el nino at some point in the next few months.El nino is a parameter which cuts on development in the atlantic basin like what occured ib a big way in 1997 when it was a very slow season because of a very strong el nino event in that year.

Without el nino this 2005 will continue to be very active distint from 2004 when the season was capped in mid october when a weak el nino developed.

For those members who are newbies and dont know what el nino is at link below there is a whole explanation.

That explains why Jeanne was the last "big" storm of 2004 (albeit there were others after her).

If there's an El Nino for 2006 will that mean it will be a less active cane season than either this year or last year?

Yes - if El Nino returns, that would be a limiting factor in tropical atlantic development.

That was interesting how things slowed dramatically last year after the first part of October in what was only a mild El-Nino event.

Probably. And it would be a welcomed change from '04 and the blockbusting year this is shaping up to be.
