Western Atlantic Tropical Summary - WATS up July 27, 2005

I suppose the Dixie Chicks need to redo "Goodbye Earl" and sing
"Goodbye Franklin", because Franklin has got to die! What a pesky
storm that has persisted for a week now. He's been vigilant, fighting
upper level lows, shear, trofs, you name it. Every time the convection
fades off and I thin Franklin has breathed his last breath, BAM, another
flareup occurs.
Elsewhere, there's another upper level low to the southwest of Franklin,
which is enhancing the outflow of Franklin's southwestern quadrant.
There's a lot of dry air north of Franklin. Not in this picture, but a ridge
is moving off of the New England states eastward. The clockwise flow
around this is moving the dry air North of Franklin westward, and should
provide a more favorable environment for the northern half of Franklin
tomorrow. An approaching trof should move Franklin out to sea in the next 2-3 days.
The Caribbean sea is dominated with dry air today. Invest 92L is coming
into the picture now, and if nothing else, will mix up the environment
and make conditions more favorable for 93L and beyond. It is still too
early to write off 92L - strange things have happened this year.
Dry air also covers a good portion of the Southeastern US today.
Prepare for more hot, humid, and miserable conditions.
Comments welcomed!
