This is great. I don't have to look everywhere on the board to find the up to date info. Great job. :D :D :D

Cycloneye,

I don't agree with locking threads just because they're too long. I just don't see why that could possibly be good. If they're long, that's a sign that they might be popular, as someone else has said, but, as another poster also has stated, if there's a thread that's fifteen pages long with some generic title and someone starts a new thread with some really catchy or interesting title, if this thread has some original information in it, why does it need to be locked or deleted? I think updating the titles has helped some, but it's nice to be able to have the option of separate threads dedicated to different aspects of a particular system, for example, movement, satellite, recon, models, obs, predictions, etc. It gets very frustrating, even though the title of a thread gets updated based on the latest emphasis of that thread, to have to try to scroll through fifteen pages of disconnected, outdated material. Having said that, I fully appreciate the fact that when there are twelve new threads started every five minutes, and they're all about the same thing, that things have gotten out of hand and threads need to be locked/deleted. What I am trying to say is let's have a balance between everyone trying to start a new thread every single time they see a wobble or a new model comes out and locking any new post unless it's already in a thread fifteen pages long, just in the name of keeping clutter down. Thanks for letting me voice my opinion :)

Luis
you are doing a fantatsic job.
I love everythnig under one thread and I like when you make a new post, you change the title of the thread.
It is very helpful that way.

The only problem with the long threads is they generally tend to
get way off topic after some time. And if people get "stuck" using that
thread, then it can get more out of topic, and become clutter.

Why not start a new one after 15 pages, if the conversation warrants it?

"if the conversation warrants it" is always in the eye of the beholder -- which is why I'd oppose any hand-and-fasting locking rule.

The beholder can start the new thread - it's that easy. When a thread
gets to be 15 pages long, it becomes easy to get lost in it.

At least you know where the thread is. (And one's proclivity for getting lost is also a matter of individuality.) I hate it when I take a day and a half off, and the thread I'm looking for is already three pages back.

I think it is just fine for those who have no interest in posting themselves. It's very difficult to post anything that doesn't have something to do with the tropics and what is going on. Thus, one could say everything is a duplicate.

S2K is a great site......

I would like to see a thread for NHC advisories and discussions ONLY. That way I don't have to go through several other posts to find the NHC posts. I only say that because I was used to just clicking on the latest advisory thread and seeing it without having to scroll way down to find it. I thought I mention that, but I am sure I will get used to the several page threads though, as it's much better than massive amounts of duplicate threads. Luis, you are doing a fine job controlling those dupe threads, thx.

Luis, I think you're doing a great job. I don't know that I'd have the patience to do what you're doing :D

Just a suggestion: Instead of locking threads and leaving them on the board with the little padlock beside them, why not move them to an appropriate thread? Is that possible? That way the ladies and gentlemen who unknowingly start a new thread on something that has already been posted won't be offended. If I were a new poster and made a post that got locked, I'd probably be a bit upset and wonder why it happened. Perhaps a note at the top of the page explaining the policy would help? It could say something like this "Duplicate topics/posts will be moved to an appropriate thread".

Also, some have mentioned having to wade through pages of posts within a thread to find current info. I don't mind having to do that IF the title is updated. If the title of a thread does not grab my attention, I'll skip over it, possibly missing some good information. However, I don't like to be bothered with having to skim through countless threads debating the latest wobble to find pertinent information lol.

Keep up the great work!

It is better having a limited number of threads. Within only last couple of hours there is half a page of threads with new posts, of which I'll only look at a few.

Another good suggestion that will be considered.

how about haveing forums with in talkin tropics that go to a particulat hurricane like franklin for example if some one had a question that they wanted to get noticed they would go into the "franklin" forum and post there question as a thread and it would go on from there

Now that's a good idea!

As long as those get archived. The reason I like this idea is that in 10 years (if Storm2k still exists, I hope it does) I could go back and see my posts by going to Hurricane Season 2005, then oh let's say Hurricane Emily instead of sifting through hundreds of pages of fluff just to get there.

The only problem I see is that there would be too many subcategories and that would take up bandwidth space. Also, topics like this one, how would they be arranged?
