The external fuel tank camera view was EXCEPTIONAL !!

Of course, I have to ask this now - we can have a vehicle go from 0 to
14,000 MPH, 50 miles into space, and never lose the pitcure. It got fuzzy
a couple of times, but it was great. We've also been in constant communications with the crew.

But try to drive down I-10 and not drop a cell call............

Awesome sight watching the shuttle fly again... I know the Space Shuttle Main Engine Test Team at Stennis Space Center (Boeing) MS is collectively breathing a sigh of relief to see such a flawless launch....

I agree, that shot was great, and the first time I've seen it during a launch..

I believe that was the first time they've had that camera shot.

Also a great view from Palm Bay. I wanted to video tape it, but no video cameras are allowed at my work :(

Oh well, maybe next time!

Wow, that was neat. That air shaking thing is strange. You can feel it on your skin, watch your windows move like they are breathing on their own LOL! My favorite part!

I have a movie shot from KSC by one of the workers. If anyone is interested, I'll post it.

For now, off to work the night shift.

I'm so jealous towards those of you who got to see this from your DRIVEWAY! No fair! I had to watch it on television... Anyway, horray for a safe lift-off, and may the rest of the trip go just as planned! 8-)

Tell me about it. I didn't even watch it b/c I had my math off (read my post in the Off-Topic Forum, Discovery has lauched thread). I woke up at 8 local time, turned on the TV, turned on the computer, and wouldn't ya know it, already over. Lift off was at 7:39 local time.

Pretty comical, eh? It happens sometimes.

Anyway, I'm happy the launch was successful. I hope that the crew can return to Earth safely, best of luck to them. :D

My 5 year old watched the launch. Of course she is too young to remember Columbia and what happened, though my 12 year old does. It was amazing to watch the 5 year olds reaction to the astronauts and the launch in space. The new camera was fantastic and she jumped up and down when you could see the earth. She had many questions... but it made me think about how so many ask what is the point of our manned space missions. I couldn't help but think... even if we did nothing else... isn't passing on the dream to our children something. We can do things with technology our parents/grandparents never dreamed of... Imagine what their generation will be able to do.

We are all being allowed to go outside and watch it at work today. Everyone here is very excited as we have a big interest in the successful launch as my company has an awful lot at stake over this going right.

rather have some smart a****'s here than dumb ones!
We actually watched it on closed circuit tv that I believe was the NASA feed channel. It is amazing how they have so many neat camera views now. They added many more cameras after the ill-fated flight so they could "see" everything this time that could go wrong. Thank god nothing did!
Everyone here was thrilled!!!! Looks like more business coming our way down the road. :)

Speaking of that camera...I really admire the engineers here at work...I can't even being to imagine how to design a camera that can withstand speeds of 17,500 mph. I'm just a little old finance person...hahahahaha!

Watching the launch today with neighbors and friends on this mainly locals-only beach in Cape Canaveral.

Cheers went up after the boosters separated, and the boys on the bottom right were so excited by the whole event!

Maybe they will get a chance to see a Hurricane while they are up there. I have not been following the Pacific so I don't know if there is any action over there, but some of the views and pictures they get when there is a hurricane spinning, are absolutely incredible. Anyone remember the shot of Hurricane Elena back in 1985? Wish I had the link. It was a breathtaking view of the storm.
