Dennis landfall picture

#1 Postby r_u_stuck2 » Mon Jul 25, 2005 3:51 pm

Friend of mine traveled down the intercoastal waterway from Ft. Pickens to Navarre this past weekend. They brought back lots of pictures but this is where they think Dennis crossed. Traffic is still not allowed from Pensacola Beach to Navarre. There is also a new lagoon at the Ft. Pickens end where none existed before.

According to the person who took this picture, the depth is not perceived correctly where the road was washed out, it is much deeper than it appears.

What'd they use a camera phone? They'd have gotten a better picture with a 10 dollar disposable.

He used a film camera, this was scanned in, probably my ineptness in scanning.

I know somewhere they had a picture of that road. It might had been the Pensacola News Journal. I think the storm went in very close to that.

Nevertheless, that's an amazing picture; depth perception or not... Whew.

Wow.

If Dennis' eye had just come a few miles west of where it did Pensacola would've been wiped off the map.

Once again, don't compare the two. They were much different in much more than wind speed.

Its like throwing a peach at someone, and then throwing a granny smith apple. There is going to be a noticeable difference

Do you personally know the winds at your house?

You were on the weak side of a stronger storm, which happened to be moving faster. Ivan was a slow and weaker storm.

But the key here...

When you have multiple storms come through the same area in a couple years time frame. The first storms cause the most damage, becuase they destroy the weaker items in nature. This leaves only the stronger more resilient things... thus why less damage would occur even in a stronger storm.

But you were on the weaker side of it. I am sure the people that went through the eye would STRONGLY disagree with you. Any real met. knows the difference, and it has been argued on here too many times. I am done.

excuse me but your statements are totally inaccurate, ivan did not only leave "stronger" structures, it actualy weakened many trees and structures, and yes i would know cause i did got through both of them and i have family who live on pcola beach and navarre and they would not "strongly" disagree with me, anyone who lives down here and went through then both will tell you that ivan was much worse than dennis for the area as a whole, so thanks for giving me your "opinion" but ill give you the facts from the people who live here, thanks a bunch!

Nice...

Considering i own two houses there. One that had only minor damage in Ivan, and then major roof damage in Dennis. Both in Pensecola west of the I-10 bridge by a few blocks. I think i know a little about the storms.

If there was something weak that wasn't cut down. That is YOUR problem.
I give up on your ignorance.
Post all you want, i won't respond here.

dont worry ill post away, oh and i thought you were already "done", hmmm dennis was worse?? where are all the pictures of interstates washed away, bulidings completely demolished, hundreds off trees knocked down, ill go ahead and answer you, casue dennis was not as bad as ivan, my grandmas house was destroyed during dennis , but she was one of the islolated ones, the beaches are already open on a few weeks after dennis compared to months after ivan so unless you actually live here and went "through"them and were here for the aftermath, please feel free to not post your opinions, thanks a lot!

So you're telling me that the I-10 bridge washed away during Ivan, a weaker storm, and during Dennis, a stronger storm, the pathetic little temporary bridge made it just fine?
