I'v seen remants of tropical systems that moved northward. 2 or 3 times one made it up here with 20 to 25 mph winds with over a inch of rain...Here is one of them. It was likely wow!!! So yes they some times on rare times can do so.

Same as Cindy,Arlene, or many other storms that are not getting Adivsories but they still bring a punch.

Being from Maine we have only had 2 hurricanes in my 20 years of being alive! One was the summer I was born Hurricane Gloria Hit the Eastern Coast and was retired then in 1991 we had Hurricane Bob who was also retired! I was excited that we were going to be getting Bob I remember the day it hit I took a Tape player I had gotting that had a mic attached to it and pretended I was reporting on what Bob was doing! lol Hurricane Bob did alot of damage around Maine such as trees down power out and that kind of stuff I don't remember if any houses were destroyed or not.

Andrew. I pray I never experience anything like that again.
And while he was only a TS, I had a pretty scary experience in TS Chris in 1988, because I was sailing the southeastern Bahamas singlehanded when I got caught in him.
Edit: Tons of tropical storms, of course. I do live in Miami, after all.

Hurricanes that have affected my life
1954 Hazel Rochester, NY - a windy night. My mother told me that DC was getting it worse than we were.
1955 Connie Rochester, NY - produced a windy day for my 9th birthday on August 13.
1972 Agnes Rochester, NY - caused Lake Ontario to become rough. Also caused several floods and filled Mt Morris to capacity.
1974 Carmen Eglin AFB, FL, near Fort Walton Beach. Did not affect us but threatened us with 138 mph winds before it headed to LA instead.
1975 Eloise Chambersburg, PA. Had hard time getting to bowling because flooding had split the town in half.
1996 Fran Chester, VA. 2 1/2 hour power outage, and high winds blew off a windshield wiper on my van.
1998 Bonnie Chester, VA. Threatened to hit the first day of SUUSI (http://www.suusi.org) but veered to the east and left us alone.
1999 Dennis Chester, VA. Poured a lot of rain on us and saturated the ground.
1999 Floyd Chester, VA. Flooded many locations, caused high winds and blew down some trees.
2003 Isabel Chester, VA. Worst hurricane I have been through. Caused 21-hour power outage, coated our yard with leaves and branches, and felled two trees; one was blocked by other trees from hitting our house, and one narrowly missed our 2-foot telephone pole.
2004 Gaston Chester, VA. Nearly destroyed our Corolla; my wife would have parked it in a flooded area if she had to come to work earlier.
2004 Frances and Ivan Chester, VA. Both produced tornado after tornado after tornado. Both produced tornado warnings for our home, with one just as we were leaving for a dance at my church.

Opal 1995 and Ivan 2004 were the worst(I'm 300 miles inland so they were much weaker when they got here). For Opal we were just east of the eye and had a period of hurricane force winds and gusts for several hours in the middle of the night.
Ivan wasn't as bad, came through in the daytime, we were 150 miles east of the eye this time, some gusts close to hurricane force.
Frances 2004... some 35-45 mph gusts
Jeanne 2004... went east, just some rain and a little wind, the least of all
Remnants(mostly rain... some gusty winds, but nothing like Ivan/Opal).
Danny 1997
Allison 2001
Barry 2001
Hanna 2002
Isidore 2002
Lili 2002
Bill 2003
Bonnie 2004(a little rain, center passed southeast of us and was moving really quickly)
I might have missed some remnants(especially before 1997), but I got the big ones.

I lived in Tampa the first 11 years of my life from 1973-1984. I don't rememeber any hits except a scare from David.
In Savannah, GA:
1984 - Diana - brush - first storm I ever tracked
1984 - Isodore - don't remember
1985 - Hurricane Bob - center passed about 30 miles east of me and we had nothing, nada, not even windy weather
1985 - Kate, caused most wind damage I have seen, trees fell in our yard on Wilmington Island, GA
In Birmingham, AL:
1992 - Andrew directly overhead as a TD, just rain and squalls
In Houston:
1998 - Frances - saw most rain from a storm, (lived in Dallas during Allison '01) stayed home that day.
2002 - Fay - drove to Galveston to see it; not much to look at.
I have still never been in a full-fledged Hurricane or taken a direct hit from a TS, although Kate in '85 was pretty close.
We plan to stay here in Houston for the forseeable future, at least until I retire back to Florida in ~30 years....I think my luck may be about to run out.

Fran (1996), Bonnie (1998), and Floyd (1999). I don't count Isabel (2003) because her effects here were of a minimal tropical storm, if that. Just some 30-40mph winds and a lot of rain. So it's been six years since I've seen some hurricane action. The funny thing is, I was still quite young when Floyd paid us a visit, and it was at night, so I was terrified. Now that I'm older, I wouldn't be scared at all, so I wouldn't mind a Cat 1 (nothing too too serious) coming our way. Now that I want one, I can't get one. Just my luck, huh?
