Anomalously tranquil the Eastern Pacific...

Just look at this satellite picture...This is as quiet as you will ever see it during their season peak (late July/August).

Unfortunately, all the strong energy is being transferred to the wrong "arena" this year...the Atlantic.

It is possible that we'll see a record low number of storms in the Eastern Pacific this year, while the Atlantic sees a record high number of storms. Kind of interesting, isn't it?

The lowest the Eastern Pacific has seen (on record) is 8 tropical storms in 1977. The highest the Atlantic has seen (on record) is 21 tropical storms in 1933.

This is not a stretch if the current pattern continues...

True - it's almost as if the earth has suddenly shifted a few degrees west :larrow:, placing the W. Carib/GOM/BOC in the same meteorological location formerly occupied by the EPAC...

Maybe it was that earth quake?
