He is a Hurricane forecaster with the University of Colorado... he predicts several times a year how many TS/Hurricanes/Majors we'll have each season.

Many of us could be living on the streets after this season if you know what I mean.

I think most everyone here uses the term fish for a storm that does not affect us mainland, but i know what you mean...

Actually I am sure the word "Fish" means a storm that does not hit any land areas

Yes. It will be VERY surprising if he doesn't bump his numbers to at LEAST 18 named storms, 10 hurricanes and 5 major hurricanes for this season. With lower than normal wind shear, extremely warm SSTs in the mean developmental region, and other factors such as no El Nino, etc... even these numbers might fall short especially in the major hurricane category...

Show a wee bit more respect. Dr. Gray is an older gentleman who has contributed much to hurricane forecasting and weather in general.

Once again, Derek, thank you. For all of you who live in the US and are affected by storms, and don't realize that all those little dots are places that contain people with lives and homes and activities, NOT all living in little huts on beaches (though some are and they have families and lives as well), please keep that in mind when you say fish, as someone clarified as a storm that does not hit land anywhere. (for the rest who know all that, thanks and disregard)
Just a suggestion to consider. If you are not aware of the chain of islands called the Caribbean islands (with many subnames such as Greater and Lesser Antilles, Windward and Leeward Islands, etc), or those other islands called the Bahamas, or that tiny speck called Bermuda or that rather large land mass called Mexico, there are LOTS of sources online to help you become aware of them and the people who live on them, and for this forum, how storms have impacted them. The history is pretty amazing and might be very informative to curious minds.

A practice that needs to be stopped. I for one find it offensive.

I would love to see a 1933, 1887, 1969, or 1995 (without the bad storms, though it may happen :( ), and it would be amazing if we saw Alpha...

observation: people who live in inland states do not have to deal with hurricanes. Tired of hurricanes? Move off the coast!

Well, truth be known, if I were ever to erect a man-made structure THAT CLOSE to the water's edge, I believe I'd have to be expecting that kind of damage... And, unfortunately, because some (many) folks choose to do so, my insurance premiums surely aren't "declining..."

Oops, a little OT - sorry, off the soapbox now...

I realize the damage cuz I was down in Florida during Charley... I'm not rooting hurricanes towards land or anything
