what about the FSU Superensemble
was just curious if any knew what the FSU Superensemble was saying about our new TD. With all the models (and even forecasters) showing such a variation of forecasts i would be curious to know what that it says.

No your tax dollars are not funding that model. That was likely developed using research grants
Furthermore, just because your tax dollars pay for something, doesn't mean you are entitled to it. Using that logic, you are entitled to classified national security info just because your tax dollars fund it

I found this on their website:
Support from a private company--an insurance underwriting consortium--already has contributed towards the main computers, an IBM SP supercomputer and two IBM high-powered workstations, and if tests continue to show promise, interest in getting the technique into the public arsenal of forecasting tools surely will follow.
Support and contributed towards tell me that is partial and not complete. I am all for reasearch and all that but I can't figure out why this one is secret and a bunch of others aren't.

this is good discussion so everyone in the thread keep your cool. " A product under construction never should be released", derek aren't the other models constantly being developed and fine tuned? this model is good enough for nhc to use as a tool and thus is on par with the others or at least in the game.

I really don't get it either. I understand why drug companies patent their products. After the millions they invest in R&D, they are entitled to recoup a profit. But the FSU super ensemble is surely not going to be marketed and distributed. And it's not like anybody else besides FSU can make the model do its magic. So what's the harm in releasing the model's forecasts?
