What we need is a big net across the GOM with a keep out sign. The GOM is closed for the season.

The deaths would be greater from that, then from the storm in the first place.

What's so different about crawling on a roof as opposed to climbing on ladders and trying to screw down sheets of plywood in a gale? I'll take the roof and the net any day!

Where is your entrepreneurial spirit? This is the point where you start up a company that will install it FOR people for a reasonable fee. Train some folks on how to do it, and make some dough. Sillies.

its called slope and height. furthermore the net doesnt proclude you from doing the ladder. and the smart people like your truly gets his hurricane shutters up before the gales but this is south florida and there were plenty of people still in line at the lumber store as the outer bands of frances were rolling in and soaking them. i watched this unfold on tv from my recliner with a rum and coke in one hand and the remote control in the other.

What I was trying to get at is the fact that the wind will grab hold of that sheet of plywood and toss it and you off a ladder very easily. The wind will go through the net and not be as likely to pull you off.

lets agree that anyone putting a roof net or plywood up in heavy winds deserves to have bad things happen. but me and you are much smarter and will have our preperation completed long before that is an issue, correct?

You got that right jlauderdal! I'm an early bird for sure where storms are concerned. Then we turn around and kikk our neighbors in their collective rears and help them get their stuff done.

you got it jen. however, nothing good in life is free and thus my price for helping goes up as the storm gets closer and there is a big surcharge if my hair gets out of place because of any wind and even higher if it gets wet from rain. no need to for me to hit the liquor store, i just get paid in alcohol as the storm approaches and i dont drink smirnoff, gallo or wild turkey.

They say they will test it and if it works, I'm all to give it a try. After the lost I got from Charley last year, it will not hurt to try something like that.

I actually think the idea is smart 'if' it does work. Nothing worst then picking up all the shingles around the yard... they don't weight like feathers either!

I guess I'm lucky - beer is freely traded for help with the various honey-do lists on our street. And it's always in good supply.
