Enteresting Facts about Hurricanes
Hurricanes are incredibly powerful displays of nature's strength. Here are some interesting facts about hurricanes and storms.
In the eastern US, Hurricanes tend to form between June through November, with September being the most active month.
A storm officially becomes a hurricane when its winds hit 75 MPH. The most powerful Atlantic hurricane on record was Hurricane Allen in 1980, which reached about 190mph. It is hard to know exactly, because wind instruments are typically destroyed at these speeds. Other storms vying for the 190mph mark were Typhoon Tip (1979) and Hurricane Camille (1969).
The most money cost by any hurricane was $26.5 Billion dollars in damage caused by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. The most money, accounting for inflation, was caused by the Miami Hurricane of 1926. Adjusting for inflation, that hurricane would have cost $80 Billion to repair in today's dollars.

Actually they determine Hurricane intensity by Sea Level Pressure.
For the Atlantic, that honor goes to Hurricane Gilbert in 1988 with a pressure of 888 millibars. The lowest overall Sea Level Pressure ever recorded was in the eye of Typhoon Tip with a pressure of 870 millibars. The most intense hurricane to affect the U.S. was the Florida Keys Labor Day storm of 1935 with a sea level pressure of 892 millibars. Camille was second with a pressure of 909 millibars
