No. Cat 4, but not enough time to get to Cat 5.

I think it already was though... in the Caribbean.

if it "continues what it is doing" MAYBE 145mph... it would take a LOT more than what it is doing right now to make cat 5...

I don't see a Cat 5 happening. 2005 Hurricane season has been very unpredictable so far and if Emily is a Cat 5 at landfall, I would not be shocked anymore.

Assuming it made 145, an additional 11mph isn't a "LOT" more.

Looks like dry air near the core on the water vapor loop.
Should drop the landfall intensity.

lol that's true but as we found out in the Carib, it takes more than 156mph for the NHC to acknowledge cat 5 strength

The NHC issues intensities in 5mph increments; if Emily had extrapolated to 157.5+ mph at the surface, and pressures and other indications indicated plateauing or further strengthening, then they'd probably have gone with a 160mph labeling.

*Some* hurricanes are going to get recorded a maxed-out MS wind-speed of 155mph, and that's just the way it is.

I think she will be a 3 maybe a 4 at landfall. But who knows this season. I honestly didn't think she would get back to where she is at now at 125.

I'm amazed at the number of you who think this is possible. I'm sure it is. But will it happen?

Absolutely not.

The recon data supports 130 mph right now...In the inner eyewall is falling apart while the new outter eye is forming. What we will see over the next few hours, expect the eye to close off. While still off shore in tighten intill its forced to move inland by the central core of the cyclone.

I think we will have 135 mph was it moves in...
