if it "continues what it is doing" MAYBE 145mph... it would take a LOT more than what it is doing right now to make cat 5...

Assuming it made 145, an additional 11mph isn't a "LOT" more.wxwatcher91 wrote:if it "continues what it is doing" MAYBE 145mph... it would take a LOT more than what it is doing right now to make cat 5...Astro_man92 wrote:i think that emily will if it continues what it is doing

lol that's true but as we found out in the Carib, it takes more than 156mph for the NHC to acknowledge cat 5 strength

The NHC issues intensities in 5mph increments; if Emily had extrapolated to 157.5+ mph at the surface, and pressures and other indications indicated plateauing or further strengthening, then they'd probably have gone with a 160mph labeling.wxwatcher91 wrote:lol that's true but as we found out in the Carib, it takes more than 156mph for the NHC to acknowledge cat 5 strengthmike18xx wrote:Assuming it made 145, an additional 11mph isn't a "LOT" more.wxwatcher91 wrote:if it "continues what it is doing" MAYBE 145mph... it would take a LOT more than what it is doing right now to make cat 5...Astro_man92 wrote:i think that emily will if it continues what it is doing
*Some* hurricanes are going to get recorded a maxed-out MS wind-speed of 155mph, and that's just the way it is.

The recon data supports 130 mph right now...In the inner eyewall is falling apart while the new outter eye is forming. What we will see over the next few hours, expect the eye to close off. While still off shore in tighten intill its forced to move inland by the central core of the cyclone.
I think we will have 135 mph was it moves in...
