Thunder? i didn't know there was thunder in a hurricane but it makes sense now that i think of it or arn't you talking about emily
There's usually not lightening in the eyewall (and you usually couldn't here the thunder over the winds if there was)...but you can have it in the feeder bands...especially when they move on shore and are combined with daytime heating. Lots of thunder around here today.

We're far from the hurricane itself. But yes, we are talking about Emily. Her northernmost rain bands are hitting up here. Nothing severe or anything -- just nice to have rain.
As far as flooding goes, like Pat said, I think it has more to do with the tides.
