Landfall intensity is a big deal, but I don't think it will allow for rapid strenghtening before landfall, no higher than 140 or 145. The storm still isn't terribly organized in the eye, and the pressure is nearly steady. Just isn't enought water left unless it slows considerably more.

The big thing about it coming in 3 hours form now then 6 hours. Is that this storm is starting to tighten again. The outflow has speared outwards fast over the northwestern quad. The deep convection has reformed around the eye. 3 hours makes a difference from the 6 hours landfall in this event.

And once again, the eye is completely filled in on infrared and is in the extreme NW corner of the convection...again.

I give up on predicting intensity.

Good luck Cozumel.

Stupid question time, regarding recon. How close to the Cozumel shoreline can they take readings? Just wondering...

They can take measurements until the eye moves completely inland... they can fly around the parts still over water(for wind measurements) after that. Since there's no mountains there terrain isn't an issue.

Thank you sir! I wondered why the readings near the eye dissappear close to land. I'm learning alot about these storms from these recon threads and appreciate all of the experts input.

Hell, college costs too much to learn all of this. :D

Well, I made a plugin for offical WMO tracks. http://tropicalupdates.nhcwx.com/WMOCyclones.kmz

As for these recon plots, I'm simply doing everything by hand, no plugins.

Yes, recon will stay in the storm until the eye makes landfall. After that, they'll go home.

They can take measurements until the eye moves completely inland... they can fly around the parts still over water(for wind measurements) after that. Since there's no mountains there terrain isn't an issue.
Whyw ouldn't they be able to follow the eye over the island?

As far as I know... they would still be in the eye then. I said COMPLETELY inland. An island is not "completely" inland.
