HELP... Modem issues
Im posting from my husbands laptop, because me and my very bright self went and killed my modem on my computer. All I did was download a windows update from the microsoft website for ME (I think it was a lucent windows modem driver update or something like that, I clicked on NO when it asked if it could remove the device).. here I am thinking im doing my computer some good.. now when I try and dial in I get a message error 630 modem is not responding... I tried going through the windows help troubleshooter, but nothing on there was any darned help. My husband moved the modem to another port, but that did not help either. Oh lordy, someone please help me out here.

Bron, I had a problem similar to that... I tried and tried to connect with my laptop on dial-up... however, something had happened to my computer (I don't know what) and made my modem not connect to any phone outlet in our house. I had to send my laptop to tech support 3 times to fix the problem! All 3 times for the SAME problem... I think they were checking the T1 port not the dial-up port. Thankfully, the problem was fixed, but it was a LONG 2 months without my laptop! Some tech support for Circuit City... (Best Buy found the problem immediately, but because I bought my laptop through Circuit City, I had to go through their tech support *cough*)

this works for me when I have a problem
follow these steps:
1) go to your Control Panel
2) click on 'phones & modem options'
3) then click the modem tab
4) highlight your DSL modem (should be the only modem on that list)
5) click remove, Yes, I mean it.
6) restart your computer
*** on the bottom right by the clock you should see your modem re-installed... now it should work.
