Ignore, for a moment, the sprawling spiral arms and only look at CDOs: Is Gilbert's that much bigger? An explosively bombing system can throw up an impressive network of assessory feeder-band convection in a matter of hours, and Emily has already done so at least once in the eastern Caribbean.rtd2 wrote:SIMPLY comparing WHAT Gilbert WAS in Size that Emily Aint...I said ABOUT the same spot...Maybe AREA would have been a better word...mike18xx wrote:Emily won't be "(near) the same spot" until tomorrow afternoon; right now, she's drawing up roughly due south of Grand Cayman.rtd2 wrote:COMPARE GILBERT TO EMILY IN ABOUT THE SAME SPOT!
Gilbert was a semi-crippled 120mph storm after hitting Jamaica; Emily is a 155mph storm still half a day away from the "sweet spot" of maximum oceanic heat-content. Basically, she's hitting the race-track from pit-exit already in 4th gear.
Only an ass-load of shear, or something truly bizarre, is, IMO, going to keep Emily away from solid cat-5 tomorrow. (It may weaken slightly for the 2am, before restrengthening.)

Heres a Good IR showing Gilberts CDO/CORE and it was MUCH bigger than Emily! Gilberts Hurricane force winds extended out 2x's what emilys does!.....But Emily is a Powerful Dangerous storm that is a threat but she's No comparison to Gilbert ( AT THIS POINT)

Here's my favorite pic of Gilbert. I believe this is when the 888mb was measured.
