You can limit your chances of being eaten by an aligator by using the buddy system, where your buddies are not as good at swimming as you.

If everyone went by that philosophy, then no one would swim anywhere.I have went tubing, skiing and have even swam where gators are known to live. Does that make me dumb? NO! What is dumb is the people who have obviously fed this alligator. I encountered an alligator while tubing on a Louisiana River and the gator did not even bother us.
