Waves are already kicking up on the east coast of Taiwan. Looks like they can expect 12-meter waves near the eye!

Emily already has a greater radius of hurricane-force and TS-force winds
than this Pacific storm; in fact, she did as early as late last night.

I'll be interested to see if Haitang makes the anti-cyclonic curve around the north side of the island, as many typhoons do when they interact with Taiwan's mountainous terrain. Also, Luis, while there is signficant population along the forecast track, most of the people live on the northern tip near Taipei and then in SW Taiwan. Regardless - there will be phenomenal amounts of rain from this storm (feet) becaue of the interaction with the mountains and all of the island will experience hurricane force winds.
