Actually, from recon reports, she's 2MPH away. Not to nit pick, but I want to point out that we are witnessing a season that people will be talking about for DECADES to come.

I said that same words last year..."talking about 2004 season for decades to come" will we be saying this next year as well...?

Cancun is still a ways away, and the strength of the storm depends on what eye-wall cycle it happens to be in at landfall. That said, yeah, I wouldn't want to be living in Cancun right now.

I'm an amateur, and admit I'm not extremely well versed on these things, but it almost appears as though Emily has entrained some dry air that she's trying to spit out? It appears dry air is entrained on the north and west sides of the storm, to me anyway. Perhaps there is some other explanation that evades me. Regardless, if Emma is able to wrap those outlying bands into her circulation, she'll be a much larger storm.

I think that Emily may have gulped some dry air at the surface yesterday. I have no other explanation for why the center went completely spastic for a while, rotating at a ridiculous rate. I've seen that behavior before in the NE GOM.

A large gulp of dry air will significantly weaken a cane, but if it's a sip, I'm of the opinion that it might serve to strengthen the cane, because the core is freed to spin up, with the circulation around the storm to follow.

That's just a theory, not a fact. It's bases are upon previous observation of hurricane characteristics, not on science.
