In the recon thread, there's a report of 700MB winds of 170MPH.
90% of that is 153MPH.

Emily is DANGEROUSLY close to cat 5.

God, she's beautiful. They just don't look much better than that.

The symmetry around the eye is incredible!

I don't want to know - good lord, we have three TS's followed by two CAT 4's in the first 45 days of the season.

Actually, from recon reports, she's 2MPH away. Not to nit pick, but I want to point out that we are witnessing a season that people will be talking about for DECADES to come.

For those without the link, these will take you to the latest visible and infrared images of Emily.

She hasn't even hit the warmest SSTs yet. She's got insanely warm SSTs in her future.

Just a thought...

I'm an amateur, and admit I'm not extremely well versed on these things, but it almost appears as though Emily has entrained some dry air that she's trying to spit out? It appears dry air is entrained on the north and west sides of the storm, to me anyway. Perhaps there is some other explanation that evades me. Regardless, if Emma is able to wrap those outlying bands into her circulation, she'll be a much larger storm.
