Different? You call a sex offender "different?" Please tell me I misunderstood (long week, stupid storm, work, blondes, etc). It's totally possible that I misread that.

Yes Everyone is different. I have no right to judge people in the first place..However I can't consider them bad of something which they said an X amount of years ago...
And she did get a notice that one is moving in near them...
What are your thoughts on MGC post?
I am trying to take a stave at it...I am just looking it at from an 'out of the box' perspective. I
Instead of replying off of me...

Do everything you can to get him to move within the law...Get your neighbors together find out exactly what he has done to get this status..Rally the neighbors get media invoved... When I lived in Deltona we were notified and found out he was a second time offender...Needless to say he was only there 3 days... We had people in front of his house 24/7...Find out what he did first I don't beleive in a 19 year old having this status because he slept with a 16 year old but the real sickos I would make them leave....
All you have to do is watch tv ..These sickos can not be rehabed they will do it again and the next time it is usally worse..

rainstorm wrote:what kman means is the term "sex offender" covers alot of territory. if its a serial rapist then i would be terrified, or it he were a child molester. on the other hand it could be someone convicted of statutory rape. still, i wouldnt want a sex offender moving close to me
That why you have to find out what he did first..MGC please update us if you find out..

I believe most states have their sex offender lists on the internet along with offence committed, date committed, etc.
Google for your state and then take it from there. If you think the situation warrants inform your children immediately and plan to spend time outside with them.
If the offence was a youthful indescetion or happened once many, many, many years ago you might have a neighborhood committee visit him/her. They could inform him/her that he/she is to have no contact with any child in the neighborhood at anytime for any reason. Also if he/she is seen having contact, the neighborhood will take steps to have him/her removed from the neighborhood.
We have to protect our children and ourselves but, we must also not condemn without reason.

I'm telling you from personal experience your kids will be in a prison you wont let them out of your house and when one of the neighborhood kids isn't where they are suppose to be, everyone over reacts it crazy...

Pay attention to those state lists! Not only do convicted sex offenders LIVE somewhere (in your neighborhood?) but they WORK somewhere!
A remarkable number of our local sex offenders work at jobs where they come into people's homes (or at least on their property) to work. Our local sex offenders work for the garbage collection service, work as carpenters, HVAC installers, roofers, landscaping service guys, handymen, etc. They are not "self-employed" but work for local companies. However, when you hire the local company to send out a carpenter, electrician, roofer, etc. you don't know that you are getting a sex offender! There is no law that says they have to tell you this. And in fact, the employer may or may not know that their employee is a convicted sex offender... Is there a law that says they are notified or do they have to be proactive and check?
For those of you who are curious about this, check out the Truro (Massachusetts) murder of a couple of years ago. Allegedly the guy who collected her garbage murdered her. She was found dead with her toddler clinging to her body...
My advice would be to check your local sex offender site regularly and check it again when you hire ANYONE to work on or near your home! For that matter, I'd be nervous about someone working next door...

Definitely depends on the situation. Some abuse their own kids (or alledgely do and the kids get coached by the /other/ spouse), sometimes it's just statutory rape (e.g. 18 year old with 15 year old bf/gf), sometimes it's prostitution or pimping, and sometimes it's rape or indecency with a minor.
Then there's the dude who grabbed that girls arm after swerving to not hit her crossing the street. Find out the facts.

Let's face it a sex offender is a sex offender and statutory rape is child molestation. A guy grabbing a girls arm so she wouldnt get hit, would not stand up in a court of law. The court requires alot of clinical evidence when prosecuting these claims. If he did time in jail and has to register as a sex offender then he or she has definately violated the law and a HUMAN being. There might be a slight chance that he or she was innocent and the victim was coached into saying the man or women was guilty but I doubt it. Like I said earlier, these cases are normally tried with physical evidence to back up the claims. Now days DNA testing is so accurate I dare to say hardly no one goes to jail if they are completely innocent. Let's get tough on sex offenders not protect them. Zero tolerance is what I say for sexually related crimes.

The thought of a child molester or rapist living in my neighborhood sickens me, and I would be none too happy about it. However.................
Until you find out what this person was convicted of, you don't know if he is in fact, either one of the two. Before you go into panic mode, do a little research.
It has been pointed out more than once in this thread to find out what the person did, yet I see everyone saying "Child Molester." That is a pretty heavy label to be tossing around without having any idea whether it is true or not.
I made up, and am using the following scenario to illustrate why you need to check on the reason this person was convicted:
My wife of 18 years is two years younger than I am. While some married couples may be the same age, I would imagine most aren't. Now let's assume that I met her and started dating when I was 18, which would have made me an adult on paper, but definitely not in the maturity department. For hypothetical reasons let's say we had sex and got caught by her parents. They needless to say, did not approve, and called the police. Long story short, I was arrested, charged, convicted, and served time. After that, I would fall into the sexual offenders category and be treated the same as the serial rapist or child molester. Would I rape your children or your wife or sister? Please, I was a kid who was stupid, head over heals in love, randy, whatever. My brother is a long time police officer, and we have discussed this very thing many times. The above example is far more common than you think, and even law enforcement recognizes that the current system needs to differentiate the habitual, dangerous rapist and molester, and the ones that pose no threat to society. The current system is flawed in that way.
You need to find out what this person did! If they are a rapist or molester, get them out of there. But again, find out what they did first!

I'd LOVE to have you ride with me for just ONE shift, I'd take you to all the neighborhoods where these pervs live and I'd take you to the county jail for a eyewitness account of these pervs, THEN I'd like to see your response

Suppose you were a junior in High School and your girlfriend was a sophmore. You were 18, she was 16. Child molestation? I think not.

Surprise! Read this thread:

Anyway, I'm not in favor of sex offenders moving into my neighborhood either as I have children too. But our local sex registry for Jefferson Parish has plenty of "crimes against nature" registrants. Most of them were simply prostitutes.
So I'd urge you to get the facts.

Good point Steve always get the facts before judging somebody.Steve wrote:>>Let's face it a sex offender is a sex offender and statutory rape is child molestation.

Thanks, it's easy to be concerned, as most of us are when we get that notification. I got one in my old neighborhood. I researched the guy and it turns out he was a child molester. I thought that was pretty scary. I did more research and got the name of his parole officer. I called him and he said, "you really don't have anything to worry about, he only molests his own kids." (noted in my first post in this thread). That wasn't very comforting, but the guy lived a few blocks away from me. His house was always dark, and you never saw him out in daylight. I cautioned my kids to stay away from him and gave my oldest "the talk" and told him there are those out there who might wish to hurt you. He understood.
Most Parishes/Counties have a website where you can research the perpetrator to find out what their crime was and then make an informed decision about who and what they are.
The State of Mississippi has it's own website where you can search by county:
http://www.sor.mdps.state.ms.us/So_Search.asp
Again, if this offender is a prostitute, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If they're a convicted rapist, that's another story.
