This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Something very strange is going on in worldwide tropics

#1 Postby JTD » Thu Jul 14, 2005 9:56 pm

To see the Atlantic basin as the most active oceanic hurricane basin is very surprising and shocking. I believe the atlantic leads the WPAC and EPAC in cyclone formation so far this year.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I saw it mentioned tonight that the heat potential from the pacific is being transferred to the Atlantic. Is this due to the lack of an El Nino.

For the atlantic to be like this is utterly amazing.

Any thoughts more than welcome.

Generally, post Niño seasons in WPAC tend to have low levels of activity. The activity in EPAC tends to be lower when the ATL is active since disturbances coming across the the ATL are tending to develop instead crossing over. The current phase of the multidecadal mode which has been supporting increased ATL activity has also resulted in a more hostile environment towards development in EPAC in terms of shear and weaker than normal monsoonal patterns.

It's global warming...but, it's just global warming..forget about all of the paranoid talk about this subject. Some time after we're dead, the patterns will return to a freezing Antartica and North Pole. At least we are keeping good records for our younger generations.
