Question for the Experts about Emily and the 0000Z model run

#1 Postby johngaltfla » Wed Jul 13, 2005 9:32 pm

With Emily intensifying so quickly, and the position a little bit different, does this mean those runs are basically moot? Or does rapid intensification like this only affect the intensity models and not the tracking models?

Thanks in advance for your answers...

The model initialization will be off a bit, however, the general trend for
direction will not make a dramatic change. All of the models have suggested a WNW track across the Caribbean, and Emily will likely
do just that. Maybe a little further north than before with this
intensity, but still, the same general direction.

Good question. I understand that the more intense the hurricane, the more the hurricane will try to move northward (due to the Coriolis effect I think). But its northward movement will still be limited by the ridge, right? I mean, a hurricane is no match for a high pressure ridge, right?
