South Floridians

#1 Postby jlauderdal » Wed Jul 13, 2005 12:38 pm

I wanted to make you all aware that channel 7 in miami, yes bill kamals last employer is now offering up their own forecast discussions. i suspect all sout floridians will hit this disco before anything NHC puits out..lol.

T. Novak did the most recent one and I urge you to check back frequently for important local weather information. Here is todays disco:

Discussion:
We are tracking Tropical Storm Emily. Although she is predicted to stay south of Florida, we may see some extra moisture, clouds and breezy conditions come the weekend. Stay with Channel 7 as we chart the progress of this tropical storm. Otherwise, typical summer weather around South Florida. Steamy sunshine, plenty of heat and humidity, and occasional mainly afternoon and evening storms.

I can't believe they actually put that out and call it a discussion. It's an insult to the science. If someone ever sees a loreta loresca discussion please post it asap.
thanks

It is truly an insult. Doesn't even sound real or like a met wrote it. And I'b be willing to bet there would be no efects here in Florida from a system About 500-1000 miles away. Crazy :)

In my opinion it isn't "going straight into South America". Right now it has leveled off and is heading west. It should lift from there...

Ever since Kamal left, I tried to give ch. 7 a chance, but their mets (I guess the all are?) seem to have no analytical ability, and just tell you exactly how they say it in their "so called" discussion. Looks like they are catering to people who know nothing about weather?. However, my Mom does not know that much about weather, but she knows enough that she rather watch Norcross and or Noe instead of anyone else.

I don't watch 7 anymore, but I did catch a 7 day forcast on there (last night or this morning, I don't remember...) and it had the little "watching the tropics" on the Saturday and Sunday graphics. Allrighty. Whateva.

Channel 7 lost something far bigger

Jackie Johnson

seriously...I join with those not impressed with the current group on air in the South Florida area. I believe it is Norcross picking up the guy from New Orleans...right? What is the word on him in regards to storms?

Noboday said Ch. 7 hired reporters/broadcasters for their smarts! I go with Norcross all the way...he has the experience, he actually knows about meteo., and provides a good presentation of the situation....I like Don Noe as well they have a decent team at Ch. 10...I don't watch them for the weather...I watch them for the news.

We here in LA are losing David Bernard to you guys. He is an excellent forecaster. He *never* hypes things and gives excellent discussions. He became a local hero last year when it looked like Ivan was making a beeline for LA. He stayed on the air, never panicked, and never waivered from his forecast. He will be quite an asset to WFOR.

I agree David is a Great forecaster who doesnt hype but he will let you know when theres sseveral scenerios and On the WWL weather forum he would sometimes break from Mainstream media's HYPE...To put it blunt he's not another Mouth Piece for the NHC or NWS he's a good Forecaster that happens to be on TV! I watched NOLA weather alot and still do!

2 things: loreta has more than compensated for the loss of jackie.
please don't say norcross and picking up a guy in the same sentence if you know what i mean.

Nothing wrong with saying "watching the tropics" .. things do happen, and we do have to watch them.
