Yup! :)

What's this "Off Topic" nonsense? Perhaps you should create a "Socio-economic/Political Ramifications of Weather Anomolies" forum. :P

The thread was going into a non-tropics direction (that's considered "off-topic" even if it was still "on-topic" with the thread). So, it was split by request.

The conversation can continue, you know. It's simply in a different thread than the one about the oil rig.

I ran into something strange...last week, some organization SOLICITED (very unusual; never known to happen), by mail, all of my sibs and me, wanting us to sell our mineral royality rights...they offered only 3 1/2 years' yield (pretty poor, considering that these wells have been steady).

What I found out was that this "company" cannot be found on any website other than their own. They buy and sell to "private individuals" (Mexico? Al Qaida? Venezuela? China?), and ask for information that could open us up for identity theft, fraud, etc.

More, some Mexicans are making claims that their great-great-grandparents were forced off the land (TX) in the 1930s by oil companies, and are suing to get their hands on the royalties. Murder (!) is involved in one such dispute.

I've been advised to have all of my siblings and myself "stonewall", so that we DON'T sell, and we're all "on the same page". This deal smells like yesterday's mackerel catch. :larrow:

It wont get any better if the Unocal sale to China goes as expected. (The Pres is allegedly pushing for this.)

Unfortunately, this president is every bit as much in China's pocket as his predecessor was.
