Can Grenada take another hit?

#1 Postby micktooth » Tue Jul 12, 2005 11:05 pm

Does anyone know how Grenada is recovering after Ivan? It looks like Emily will get close. I found this link: http://www.grenadagrenadines.com/press.html?id=67

Grenada will definetely have a hard time with another hurricane, granted this is no IVAN, but still.

I know for certain Tobago, and to a greater extent, Trinidad, cannot cope with a hurricane now. Trinidad has only been hit by a hurricane twice in its history, though there have been several tropical storms take a swipe. And IVAN did give them a scare last September.

But its an island thats usually on the southern fringe of the hurricane belt and has no experience dealing with a full fledged hurricane.

Emily has developed two rotors.

I also think the track has leveled off, making a Grenada hit more likely...

we may also ahve to watch for the caribbean coast of Venezuela as well. They tend to have to deal with tropicla storms a bit more frequently, but they do not deal well. Ivan killed a few in Venezuela just from flooding from an outer band

Don't forget what Bret did in 1993.

yep. More than 100 died in the Caracas shanty town as Bret actually made landfall in Venezuela.

Cesar in 1996 was retired because of what it did to Venezuela

Should be close or right over tonight. Could be dropping pressure again?

Oh, I thought it was retired for what it did in Nicaragua.

I know Grenada was hit awfully hard by Ivan. Hopefully Emily will not be that strong when she makes her closest pass to the island.
