I know that feeling well when our power returned after 5 days following Charley. Most took 2 weeks.

As your grandmother's house shows, Dennis wasn't a weak storm...

Dennis's storm surge caused significant problems 130 miles east of where the center came across. They had significant flooding in St. Marks (south of Tallahassee) from both the surge and substantial rain. In Apalachicola there were several structures destroyed by the surge and I know here in Panama City Beach, there was moderate damage from the wind and substantial damage from the surge and I know that the damage gets exponentially greater as you head west from us. Even though Dennis wasn't no Ivan, he definitely left his mark here in the Panhandle.

Glad to hear you made it through alright and got power back! Mine came on less than an hour ago. At one point this past Sunday morning I didn't think any of us would have homes to come back to.

Glad to see ya back ivanhater! I'm glad no harm came to you but i'm so sad to hear about your grandmothers home.

I don't believe it when people say Dennis was weak. Correct if i'm wrong on this....just say that Ivan DIDN'T happen last year and Dennis came through this year...don't you believe that the Dennis damage would be much much more substantial? Ivan took out most of the "weak" (i can't find the word i'm looking for here)...the old roofs, trees that hadn't been pruned in a few years etc. Now this year, you have your stronger trees left, new roofs, new construction with new codes so naturally you don't see as much damage. Ivan cleared the way for Dennis.

dennis was not weak at all, i think the saving grace was it was moving so fast at 21 mph the last i heard, so it was in an out in no time, it got pretty bad for about an hour and that was it, ivan was prolonged and casued more damage, so i think if dennis stuck around more, there would more damage.
