Anyone else have this type of experience?

Upon arriving back at work today, I heard comments like "mandatory evacuations were stupid and unnecessary!" "The Governor shouldn't have been so irresponsible." "People can't afford to leave for every weak storm." "Dennis was probably not as strong in the Gulf as the experts said." And on and on and on...

One question: How many of these people would be slamming our leaders if Dennis had remained a Category 4 storm and made landfall on THEIR doorstep? Ask the folks in Punta Gorda or Gulf Shores how they'd feel. Ask the folks who actually experienced the devastation and heartache of Andrew or Camille or any other retired name...

My biggest concern is people have grown tired of leaving when ordered to only to conclude the threat never really existed to start with. If so, then why leave again? Here's my two cents for what it's worth... many of us remember the devastation from hurricanes that DIDN'T WEAKEN at landfall or even strengthened near land. Not all weaken and one day, perhaps soon, a landfalling hurricane will not lose it's punch near shore. I only hope the boy hasn't cried wolf one time to many for many coastal residents. I pray we all continue to do what it takes to stay out of harm's way.

I wonder if these people kick themselves for being so stupid as to have paid their insurance and then not having had a catastrophic accident?
