Arlene, Bret, Cindy and Dennis have happened, and Dennis will probably be retired.. good riddance to him. Emily just formed, Franklin is possible by the weekend....

For reference, here are the next storms.

Gert, Harvey, Irene, Jose, Katrina, Lee, Maria, Nate, Ophelia, Phillippe, Rita, Stan, Tammy, Vince, Wilma...

and if that keeps up: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, Zeta, Eta, Theta, Iota, Kappa, Lamda, Mu, Nu, Xi, Omikron, Pi, Rho, Sigma, Tau, Upsilon, Phi, Chi, Psi, and Omega (That's the entire greek alphabet) ..

Yes i know im a dork

If we get to Hurricane Omega, I'm heading for the hills. What's left of Florida will be following close behind.

Hurricane Omega

#8 Postby jimvb » Mon Jul 11, 2005 11:11 pm

As I said in another thread, if Hurricane Omega arrives, it will be the Ultimate in Tropical Cyclones. In the Bible, it says God is the "Alpha and the Omega", and mathematicians use omega to denote the first infinite number, beyond all the finite ones. If there is another storm beyond that, it would be Hurricane Omega + 1. Or maybe use cardinal numbers and go with Hurricane Aleph, and then run through the Hebrew alphabet.

May as well just call the next one Hurricane #46 at that point.

Maybe a better way to do it would be to do what they do in the WPAC -- just keep going through the list. They don't start with 'A' every year -- they just pick up where they left off the previous year.

If we go through the alphabet names too then I move to have ferocious names implimented: Godzilla, KingKong, Dracula, Cujo, Frankenstein or my personal favorite "JAWS"

Either that, or Hurricane Omega would signal the coming of Armageddon.

Have never thought of it that way but I can see how you could derive that meaning from the Bible .... If it gets to the Alphabet this year there will be a whole lotta praying going on!

I am going to make a prediction about Ophelia. I predict we will have an Ophelia and she will be a major hurricane.

Irene and Jose sound ominous to me. IIRC, Gert was a very large, very strong Cat. 4 that trailed in Floyd's wake, so that's a little scary. Hurricanes Stan, Tammy, Vince, and Wilma? Please.
