98L Invest... GFDL predicting Cat4 NE of Puerto Rico

#1 Postby ericinmia » Sun Jul 10, 2005 5:15 am

First of all, the GFDL is notorious for overexagerating storms. But this seems rediculous.

It expects the storm to be a Cat4 NE of Puerto Rico.

The trend to watch though is the Euro, CMC, NOGAPS, GFDL, GFS, UKMET, MM5, etc. are showing this heading just north of Puerto Rico, and then turning west under a building bermuda high pressure ridge.

This could be an interesting week. Oh, and the WRF expiremental model is winding this up into a 500mph hurricane like it did/is doing with Dennis. They still have some bugs to work out.

BTW, here is a funny image... The CMC predicted Dennis to do the same, albeit a differnt angle. I have a feeling the Candians are out to get us Miamians. ;)

you have got to be kidding me. forget an august like pattern, this is more like mid september, a particularly intense september. I hate to say it but i think hurricane season 2005 has 2004 in its sights

Doesn't look too good for South Florida.

In west palm, people are pretty tense.

Seems to me we could well surpass 2004! Consider this... Last year at this time, there had still been NO named storms. Can you believe that on July 10 of 2004, we still had another 20 days to go for the first named storm of the year!!

In fact, the tropics were so boring at this time last year that vbhoutex couldn't even get a rise on this thread!! :D

Okay now the Atlantic basin just needs to QUIET DOWN! I'm leaving on Thursday for a 10 day trip to Hawaii - and all of these Atlantic shenanagins must immediately cease and desist - at least till I get back! I do not want to have to think about 'where is XXX?' and 'what would be the impact at home?' Instead, all I want to think about is 'where is that waitress? I want another of those frozen drinks!' or 'is it time to turn over yet?'

Seriously though - I cannot believe the season we're having!

To all of those in Dennis' path - stay safe!

Always looks at the GFDL with a grain of salt. By the way, weatherman1820013 welcome to the forum.
