I don't know about other areas, but in Pensacola, many people who stayed for Ivan, left for Dennis. Others are staying for a variety of reasons, no gas, work, ran out of time, took too long to get back in and check on property during Ivan.

I imagine it is much the same in other areas.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is facing Dennis' wrath.

I agree. Everyone in the path be safe!

Who would have thought this would be happening after all everyone went through last year?

My God I hope those that were asked to evacuate did  To put things into perspective, I was in Myrtle Beach when Hugo came knocking with 135 mph winds..it came in at Charleston.. 3 hours south of Myrtle Beach..and at daybreak we had houses sitting in the middle of the road, boats sitting in people's yards and 18 ft surge recorded.. and that's 3 hours AWAY from where the eye came in!! Please, please, please think twice about your decision to stay or go.. if you're staying make sure someone has a list of your next of kin.. if you go make sure you go far enough inland with your hurricane supplies with you in case it takes you a while to get back home. Everyone on the Gulf Coast is in my prayers.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. I am in the panhandle of Florida and had to stay here; I felt good all day until the storm took a sudden burst of energy and now I find myself in a life threatening situation. I have been thru many storms, but this one makes me feel uneasy. Please send your prayers this way!

Sweetpea, thanks for this thread, because ultimately all we can do is hope for the best, prepare (if that means leaving, I include that!) for the worst. And then pray.

Postive Island thoughts are with those who will be dealing with the brunt of Dennis. Be safe.

If there's ANYTHING to be positive about ...

#19 Postby Weatherboy1 » Sat Jul 09, 2005 9:41 pm

it's that the CORE of the worst winds/CDO appears to be relatively small, even after the recent bout of intensification. Undoubtedly, this is going to be a disaster for the people within 20 miles east and west of the eye, but hopefully, that will be all. We're not seeing a Floyd-type storm where the damage area will be huge. And speaking of Floyd, this is the year where his name would have been re-used if it weren't retired; they rotate the names every six years and we're six years after 1999. Here in south FL, I still remember Irene passing overhead. Nothing much in terms of wind, by my first storm since moving back after college (1998 grad; born and raised in Palm Beach County during the 20-year "dead zone" for storms in late 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s)

Very Sad...

#20 Postby FloridaDiver » Sat Jul 09, 2005 9:52 pm

A very sad and unfortunate situation for many people in the path of Dennis; I have a friend who lives in the Pensacola area and they are still picking up the pieces from last year, their roof replacement was just finished last month. I spoke to him earlier today and he has decided to move his family out of the area completely, he doesn’t think there will be much left of the rebuilt house this time around. Thoughts and prayers to all who will be experiencing a very unfortunate weekend, the scary thing is that it’s only the beginning of July and several records have been broken / made this season… what next? :(
