That's' certainly nice to know. Have you given the local emergency officials contact information for your next of kin?

Unfortunately people tend to focus on the line - rather than on the whole cone. Last year's Charley is a perfect example. All of the media hype was on Tampa, Tampa, Tampa. Heck, folks from Tampa had evacuated south to the Punta Gorda area. Then we all know what happened - at the last minute he turned - and hit an area well within the cone. And many cried foul.

Your home can be replaced. Your car can be replaced. Heck, your job can be replaced. You and your family cannot. Remember - most loss of life occurs well inland...not from winds...not from surge....but from inland flooding.

Stay safe all.

The CONE still places Mississippi in it. I'm afraid people aren't paying attention there. Like a poster above mentioned... hurricane force winds and tropical storm force winds are occuring miles and miles away from the eye. That's why the eye is just a point on the map. Ivan's effects were greatest 100 miles from the eye!

Well not everyone is evacuating, some of have to stay either personal decision because we are in well build homes or for work...

I have to stay the furthest away I will evcuate is a couple miles down the road.

Again, I appreciate your concern, but I have my plans under control.

Well let's hear them then. The whole board would like to know what kind of preparations are appropriate for a category 4-5 hurricane that hits in their areas.

Share a little, we won't bite. Just saying that your plans are under control doesn't benefit anybody, and makes me think that you are either paranoid or naive.

I'm glad everything is under control, now you can help others to understand what is needed to prepare for a major hurricane.

This is your big chance to make a difference. You obviously have the time to post tonight, so don't waste your keystrokes.

The board doesn't really care about my plans, and your tone says that you clearly don't. I am under no obligation to justify my evacuation plans to you or anyone else.

Drop it, please.

I won't drop it. By posting the way you do you suggest that you have everything under control, yet you refuse to discuss what preparations you have made. We are a community of people who are concerned about safety.

A real man explains his motives and shares knowledge with others. If you want to be completely closed about this, that's fine. It will mean to me that you don't have the slightest clue about what you are facing, and in your "in control" mode, have no advice to give to anyone around here.

Go ahead, tell me to go away. But I will continue to ask you what magical formula you have for survival. If you believe that mankind stands together to defeat adversity, then you should not have a problem with the question.

If you somehow imagine that by having a sidearm and a shotgun that somehow you can defy the laws of nature, that's your prerogative. But honestly, your posts suggest that you mistrust everyone and everything. That's a recipe for personal disaster.

I'm glad that you are in control. I'll let your local emergency officials know, they will be so happy.

Soonertwister, Hurrykane is very experienced in dealing with hurricanes. I am sure that she knows what she is doing. If I am not mistaken their is a family relationship of somekind with dhweather(I think) together they are very well prepared and able to make these decisions. These are not some northern tourists sitting in Fla. waiting for a cane thinking its like a thunderstorm. She asked you to drop it so I will ask too. Please drop it.

I would like to understand what that successful planning strategy is, that is all.

To act as though the people on this board are somehow an enemy that should not be provided any information is puzzling to be. If you have a "safe and secure" plan, then share it with this message board.

Those who are at danger need to understand what are the important measures to take. For anyone to say, "don't worry, I'm under control" serves absolutely no purpose for this board.

I'd personally like, for those on this board who don't know what to do, what the key safety measures are. Apparently one person on this board can sit at home on the MS gulf coast and not worry about what's happening.

I'd just like to know the secret here. I bet others would like to know the survival secret as well. Or maybe we could all have a party in Pass Christian, at the apartment of my choice...

You're spot on, there.

I'm in Atlanta. By the time Ivan marched through here he was a TS/TD. Still, we ended up with two trees blown over in our yard (missed the house by inches) and about 12-18 inches of water in our crawl space.

Anyone trying to fool Mother Nature will find out that the (cruel) joke is on them.

I know where you are coming from, but I understand where JurryKane is coming from and I respect him/her enough to leave him/her alone.

A lot of tension is being felt on these boards. I think we all need to step away from the computer for a minute an relax.

I personally would like to know the same things as you, but I guess now is not the time.

I'll second that.

Hurry Cane has a good head on her shoulders and is not new to hurricanes. If she says she has a plan, then she does. I can appreciate your concern but please let her make her own decisions. I will be praying for her along with everyone else in harms way. Stay safe everyone.

Lynn

HC-please check in after the storm and let us know how you are. We care!

I find it very hard to believe that there are any customers to serve at the Casinos at this point--much less up until midnight.

I'm about 200 miles inland and about 175 miles east of where the center is projected to go here. Biggest concern is trees being downed... Ivan was pretty bad but not quite like Opal. I was a little closer to Ivan's eye than I will be Dennis and was VERY close to Opal's eastern eyewall which explains that. Expecting maybe some gusts to 75 mph. I'm not in a flood plain area although just a couple of miles down the road is, so not worried about that.
