Currently winds are kicking up - bad guess at about 40 - 50 brief gusts. No rain since this morning. Overcast, lovely 'grey'. Yech!

Best to all.

Sanibel Island reporting serious wind increase to tropical storm-like conditions. Large waves and battering winds. Waves spraying across causeway. No surge. San Carlos Bay choppy disturbed waves maybe 4-5 feet (large for bay).

Gusts over 60mph now. Like Gordon of 2000.

Righted tree from Charley back down in yard.

Wind more from south...

This morning after the first small rainband showered us for 5 minutes I decided to mow the lawn... thought it might be cooler and breezy and not bad, but it's a tropical sauna out there. Didn't have breakfast and ended up having to move a lot of stuff from a relative's house we're cleaning out. It gave me a pretty bad headache, but I've Triple Stacked it with bacon, fries and a Coke - along with a couple of Excedrin. Now for a shower. Wish it would at least rain some, cool things off! The breeze has kicked up and dry dead leaves are blowing off the trees, but so far nothing intense. I have a feeling we'll be in good shape here until later tonight or tomorrow... after all this daytime heating. That, and if Dennis intensifies, the pressure gradient will probably increase the winds somewhat. But they discontinued our tornado watch here, so I have a feeling we'll be sidelined from much of the activity.

Had our first outer band come though. Wind gusted a little and we had some rain. It knocked out my cable (and my cable modem) for about an hour. It just came back on. It was 95 degrees before the band passed but now it's 84 and very humid. Should be all downhill from here.

Update from N. Naples

We just lost electricity about 15 minutes ago. Laptop and dialup for now unless we fire up the generator. Hopefully, just temporary but will try to stay on as long as the laptop battery holds up.

Good luck to all.

Checking in from Pace/Milton area...just to the east of Pensacola in Santa Rosa County. WE will be traveling to north alabama in just a few hours. NO interstates...backroads, we know them ALL from lots of experience. OUr windows are boarded..and we've done everything we can to insure that our home will be here when we return. Thanks to everyone for all the wellwishes for all of us along the gulf coast. Hopefully everyone has taken every precaution necessary for the safety of themselves and their families. I send out MY good wishes for everyone, whether they are my neighbors in LA, MS, or ALA..and also to my neighbors east of us in Okaloosa and walton counties. TAke care of yourselves and I hope to see you back here within a couple of weeks...Im quite sure the power will be out for quite a while.

Heavy gusts. Upper 50's or 60's, I can't tell.

Minimal rain.

Second Charley-weakened tree down in yard...

In the last hour or so it seems like the winds have started to pick up here in Palm Coast, Fl. (about 30 miles north of Daytona). I am a little surprised didn't think we would feel much out of this.
