Keys dodging the bullet?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Keys dodging the bullet?

#1 Postby EDR1222 » Fri Jul 08, 2005 8:21 pm

I know the storm has been wobbling alot today, but it seems now unless the storm make a strong north turn ( which looks unlikely) the Keys might be ok. Obviously they will still get some rough weather, but not the core of the storm. Hopefully the westerly wobbles hold through the evening and maybe if it stays over land, Dennis will weaken further than projected.

I don't wish this thing on anyone, but the further away from Florida, the better!

Agree. Strong tropical storm force winds are possible, with gusts nearing hurricane force.

But they'll be ok.

Looks like the Keys are pretty much OK. I thought I was seeing a northern turn, but maybe's it's just my eyes. I was out in the heat way too long today!

Well, we are ok here in the Keys, but it is blowing pretty good right now. I think that I am going to get a good wind meter though. My guess is 40kts+. Hoping that we don't see Dennis's eye (which seems unlikely). (Saw back part of the eye on Irene a few years ago and it was spectacular!)

Glad to hear you are OK. I've been watching the webcam at:

Looks pretty windy with stuff blowing around. Sure seems like a lot of traffic sometimes!

Glad that the FL Keys will not take a direct hit but they will wind and rain. I have been monitoring the Key West radar site a little.

I think they will get atleast strong tropical storm winds, we're getting pretty strong winds and sometimes heavy downpours in Florida City.

Rainband,
From what I've heard and rad, the Keys will not experience the eye. Yes, they will have definite wind and rain. And yes, hurricane directions can change at any time.

Eerie. Just watched it black-out around 10pm eastern. Would you believe there are still people driving around every now and then?

It's like a ghost town, dotted with a few young folks determined to cruise the boulevard umimpeded...

edited to include: you can hear the wind gusts.
